The act of having a complete transaction with a person improves the impression they have of each other. After all, how you interact and behave when you are near another person determines how this person thinks of you.

And in the end, if you ever hope to persuade someone, it helps if they like you. Imagine you had to convince an enemy or a person who despises you. It would be difficult, if not impossible. Hence why improving the other’s perceptions matters.

Paraphrase and repeat

Imagine you want to go out with someone. Instead of asking them out, you can suggest going out either this Saturday or the following Saturday.  This simple act of offering a choice increases the chance the other person will do what you want. The sense of freedom they have helps a lot. 

Once and while you ask the question, do not forget to keep nodding slightly and maintain eye contact. That technique works with the subconscious mind and is used by many. So why not use it as well.
